Florida International University does not publish an automatic merit grid

Miami, Florida

No published automatic grid — how merit works here

Most colleges in our calculator publish a grid that ties exact dollar amounts to GPA and test-score thresholds. Florida International University does not publish an automatic merit grid — so it is not in the calculator, and this page shows no exact award amounts for it. Below is how its merit actually works, taken from the college's own official text.

How merit works at Florida International University

FIU does not publish GPA/test thresholds that produce a merit award. FIU automatically considers admitted first-time-in-college students for merit-based scholarships when they submit a completed freshman admissions application by the early action dates FIU publishes (November 2, 2026 for Florida residents; December 16, 2026 for non-Florida residents, for Early Fall/Fall 2027). Consideration is based on the same academic records used for admission and residency status, and no additional application or FAFSA is required. FIU states scholarship funding is limited, that the Scholarship Office reviews admitted students until all funding has been allocated, and — for its main Gold and Blue award — that funding is limited and not guaranteed. The one figure FIU publishes for its general freshman award is a range, not a grid. Other FIU scholarships are searched and applied for through FIU Scholarship Search (AcademicWorks). Florida residents may separately qualify for the state Bright Futures program, which is a state program, not FIU institutional merit.

Merit programs at Florida International University (competitive — not automatic)

The named programs below are awarded by review or competition, not by an automatic grid. Any amounts mentioned are the college's published figures for that named award — selection is not automatic and no amount is guaranteed.

Presidential Merit Scholarship

How awarded: Automatically considered on a completed freshman application by the published early action date; competitive, limited funding; no published qualifying thresholds

Published award for Early Fall/Fall 2027: Florida resident — 100% undergraduate tuition and fees, plus a book stipend; non-resident — out-of-state, merit-based tuition reduction (estimated value for 30 credits = $12,000 annually). Includes Honors College admission and priority registration benefits. The published benefit describes the award if selected; FIU publishes no stats that guarantee selection.
