The MeritChart System

The free MeritChart calculator answers one question well: at which colleges does your student's GPA and test score meet a published merit grid — and at the colleges whose own language supports it, exactly how much is guaranteed? The MeritChart System exists for the work that comes after that answer: building a financially sound college list, deciding whether another test sitting is worth real money, keeping every deadline and renewal condition in view, and — if an award letter disappoints — making a professional, evidence-based request for reconsideration.

The System is a self-guided curriculum with purpose-built tools. It is priced at $397, once. It is not a subscription, and it is not a consulting service.

The four modules

Module 1 — The List Builder. Turn calculator results into a balanced application list. The tool ranks colleges by guaranteed award and, as each college's published cost of attendance is added to the dataset, by estimated remaining cost — always labeled an estimate, never blended with the verified award figure. The accompanying guide teaches reach, match, and safety balance in financial terms, and the discipline that matters most: consideration-class money is never counted in a committed total.

Module 2 — The Test-Score ROI tool. For every college on the saved list, see the distance in points to the next published tier and the dollar value of crossing it, per year and over the renewable term. The guide covers superscore versus single-sitting strategy under each college's published score basis, and the score-send deadlines that decide whether a higher score counts at all.

Module 3 — The Deadline and Renewal Tracker. Every date that protects money, in one place: application deadlines, scholarship deadlines, score deadlines, deposit dates — and, after enrollment, the renewal conditions attached to the award the student actually accepted, checked term by term. Most merit money is not lost in admissions offices. It is lost to missed dates and unmonitored renewal GPAs.

Module 4 — Appeals and external scholarships. The Appeal Playbook, a complete written module on professional financial-aid appeals — when an appeal is legitimate, the evidence packet to assemble, how to conduct it, and three complete letter templates for the situations families actually face. A secondary section covers external scholarships honestly: they are the minor money, worth pursuing in the right order and the right places, after the institutional plan is built.

How the free calculator relates

The calculator is free, and it stays the front door: enter a GPA and a score, and see published tiers with their class labels and sources. The System is for families who want to act on those results with structure — a builder, a tracker, an ROI view across a whole list, and a complete appeals curriculum — instead of a folder of screenshots and good intentions.

$397 is the full price of the System. If the calculator shows your student within reach of even one mid-tier guaranteed award, the arithmetic of a single well-built list — or a single well-timed retest, or a single deadline not missed — is the honest frame for deciding whether the structure is worth it. We will not promise it pays for itself. We will show you the published numbers, and let you judge.

The modules

Merit College List Builder

Save dataset colleges, rank them by guaranteed 4-year value or — where published COA exists in the dataset — estimated remaining cost, and filter by your family's budget. Class B figures are always labelled not guaranteed and never enter the guaranteed total.

Test-Score ROI Tool

Enter GPA and scores once; see, per college, your current published tier, the next tier, the exact points to it (SAT and ACT separately), and the dollars a retest could unlock per year and over four years.

Deadline & Renewal Tracker

Every dataset college's published application deadline, score deadline, renewal GPA, and full-time requirement in one table — filterable to your saved list.

Appeal Playbook & Templates

When a first offer is not the final word: how appeals actually work, what evidence colleges reconsider, and fill-in letters that stay factual.

External Scholarships

How outside scholarships interact with institutional merit — including the stacking rules that can quietly change the value of an award.

Application-Season Cohort

A future guided cohort, planned at $1,500–$2,500. Not open yet — see the page for exactly what is and is not promised.

How to read this page: figures come only from the college's own published pages. Class A = guaranteed automatic (the college publishes the promise). Class B = automatic consideration — amount not guaranteed. Every figure links to its official source with a verification date. Full methodology →
